Rainwater Harvesting system
Ten80's 3700 gallon underground water tanks from Water Tiger store harvested rainwater for irrigation during the dry season. Rainwater harvesting involves the collection, storage, and distribution of rainwater from the roof for use inside or outside the home. It is a simple concept with effective results. Rainwater is generally free from many of the common pollutants found in groundwater supply and many surface supplies. Provided certain precautions are taken, rainwater can be a safe, sustainable water source for all your water needs.
By collecting and using rainwater, Ten80 is reducing it's reliance on the municipal water supply, contributing to a more sustainable lifestyle, while reducing the taxing effects on water infrastructure and sources.
Solar Power System
Ten80 was built with 42 solar panels on the roof providing power to the house and the Tesla wall, as well as into the grid during times of excess power production. The house is effectively a power production station allowing the excess power produced to offset the cost of power drawn from the grid during times of lower power production. This solar system from Terra Tek Energy, with 42 panels, 2 solar arrays, and 2 solar converters, paired with a home built with energy efficient appliances, and 100% LED lighting, has resulted in a net zero home based on usage by an average sized family.
Solar Hot Water System
The solar power system is joined by 4 glycol based solar panels used to pre-heat domestic hot water, and the pool. After the water is heated by the glycol panels the water moves into the domestic hot water tank where the boiler kicks in bringing the water up to temperature.
