The Story of TEN80
The story of TEN80 is one of passion for quality, dedication to energy efficiency, and a desire to elevate the standard of luxury building. A project like TEN80 requires a team of talented people, and a great deal of thought, careful design and skillful execution. The builders at Zimal Homes and Marcraft Homes met over 15 years ago, and recognizing excellence in each other, began working together on projects all over Metro Vancouver. As a result of changing building codes, advances in building technology, and a shift in the luxury real estate market towards a desire for a more efficiently run home, the builders held the land where TEN80 would eventually be built for years planing the perfect design. The process of creating a home at this level of luxury, with a goal of net zero power consumption, is a puzzle which can only be solved with an abundance of knowledge, expertise and careful calculation. They focused on educating themselves in new technologies and advanced home building techniques, designing and re-designing the home until they produced a masterpiece, realizing their dream of a groundbreaking and awe-inspiring super efficient luxury home.

TESLA POWERWALLTEN80 is proud to be the owner of the first Tesla Powerwall 2 in BC. This innovative feature is fed by the photovoltaic system, and provides automatic power backup in the case of an outage, providing the homeowner the peace of mind that their home will continue to run.

SOLAR PANELSBuilding codes are changing, and it's important that we work hard to build increasingly energy efficient homes as technology and building techniques progress. Listen to Steele Malott discuss TEN80's solar system which includes 42 solar panels producing power, and 4 glycol based solar panels preheating the pool and domestic hot water. This system decreases the energy consumption of the home, and with responsible power usage by an average sized family, should result in a $0 hydro bill when averaged over a year of use.

RAINWATER HARVESTINGWater in Anmore is metered, meaning the homeowner pays for all the water they use. Listen to Steele Malott discuss the decision to install a rainwater harvesting system to provide water for irrigation and the pool. This decreases the burden placed on the municipal water system, provides water for irrigation during watering restricted periods in summer, and decreases water costs for the homeowner. With minimal modification to the system the harvested rainwater can easily be used for potable water inside the home, offering substantially more savings.

FRAMING & STRUCTUREListen to Wally Zacharias discuss the innovative double wall, staggered stud framing technique used in the construction of TEN80. This technique results in a highly insulated home with better temperature regulation, and a higher level of energy efficiency, keeping the occupants comfortable, and lowering heating/cooling costs.

STAIRCASEThe staircase is a no longer simply a utilitarian necessity in a home, moving people from one floor to another. In modern homes the staircase is a design element in it's own right, and an opportunity for an impressive and artistic engineering challenge. Listen to Wally Zacharias discuss the inspiration behind the staircase design at TEN80 Uplands Drive.

CEILINGIt was important to the builders that the ceilings were a notable feature of the home. In the recreation area on the lower level they built a custom designed moulded ceiling with integrated LED uplighting and white oak finish. The main floor and mezzanine feature rooms with expansive vaulted ceilings, also finished in white oak. Listen to Wally Zacharias discuss the design elements of the ceilings at TEN80.
